SPEAKER_00: This is detective Chris Pohanka and sergeant Dave Cortez. SPEAKER_00: Date is November 18 about 11:55 in the morning, and we are with what's your last name? SPEAKER_00: K. SPEAKER_00: And we will start the recording as well as the interview. SPEAKER_01: Alright. SPEAKER_01: So, basically, your name came up because I guess you're friends with is that right? SPEAKER_02: You know pretty well. SPEAKER_02: Yep. SPEAKER_02: He's my roommate. SPEAKER_01: He's your roommate? SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Did you how well did you SPEAKER_02: know the victims of the homicide? SPEAKER_02: I knew I've known Kaylee since freshman year. SPEAKER_02: She's in the same in the same pledge class as me. SPEAKER_02: So just, like, hanging out with her periodically throughout the last four years. SPEAKER_02: Mhmm. SPEAKER_02: Been to her house in Coeur D'Alene on one time. SPEAKER_02: And then I knew Xana, not I mean, not as well as Kaylee, but pretty well over the last two years. SPEAKER_02: She was over the up there over the summer, and I stayed in Moscow over the summer. SPEAKER_02: So we hung out a couple times. SPEAKER_02: But I knew Maddie just because we're in the same place class. SPEAKER_02: I didn't, like, hang out with her a whole lot, but yeah. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_01: And then from what we understand, Kaylee and and were dating before? SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: So they've been dating since high school and kind of on and off, I think they broke up, like, twice between that time frame. SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure they broke up because she accepted a job in Dallas. SPEAKER_02: So they're just kinda settling things before she left after semester. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Alright. SPEAKER_01: How long ago did SPEAKER_02: they break up? SPEAKER_02: I think two months ago. SPEAKER_02: Two months? SPEAKER_02: Alright. SPEAKER_02: I I don't know for sure, but that's kind of the estimate Okay. SPEAKER_02: What I have. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Alright. SPEAKER_01: Um, and then so you knew you knew Kaylee pretty well and Maddie, it sounds like. SPEAKER_01: Do do you know if there was anybody that, you know, was angry with Kaylee, or did did you ever talk to her about, you know, her having possibly a stalker or anything like that? SPEAKER_01: You know, was there anybody that you that she had ever mentioned that, you know, kind of gave her bad vibes or, you know, that might wanna hurt her? SPEAKER_02: Nothing that I've heard at all from her. SPEAKER_02: I know some girls said that there might have you guys heard of some walking out of Winko, someone following her a couple months ago? SPEAKER_02: No. SPEAKER_02: Mhmm. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: So I don't know anything about this. SPEAKER_02: I just heard this from some of her friends that she might have had someone following her out of Winko, like, directly behind her into her car. SPEAKER_02: Mhmm. SPEAKER_02: And then I don't know if they heard anything else about that, but I could give you a number of someone who knows more about that SPEAKER_00: friends. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: Her sorority sisters. SPEAKER_00: Oh, the sisters? SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Anyone in specific? SPEAKER_00: I heard that from SPEAKER_02: I think she she gave some statements the day of SPEAKER_01: Do you have her phone number? SPEAKER_02: I think I do. SPEAKER_02: Alright. SPEAKER_02: She's down in Cali right now. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_02: Let's see if I can pull it up. SPEAKER_01: So did did this person that followed her out at Winco, was was he a student up there? SPEAKER_01: Or SPEAKER_02: I honestly don't know really any details about it. SPEAKER_02: Just haven't told me that story. SPEAKER_02: Alright. SPEAKER_02: If you wanna write that down. SPEAKER_00: That's your phone number. SPEAKER_00: Thank you. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: But that seems to be something kinda serious. SPEAKER_02: I don't know if something definitely deserves looking into. SPEAKER_02: We'll talk SPEAKER_01: about that and and get the story from her. SPEAKER_01: And maybe she's got some more details, you know Yeah. SPEAKER_01: About it. SPEAKER_01: When when was the SPEAKER_02: last time that you saw Kaylee? SPEAKER_02: So I work at the Okay. SPEAKER_02: So it was that night. SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: So I saw her and Maddie leave and just leaving with them. SPEAKER_02: Mhmm. SPEAKER_02: And then that was the last time I saw SPEAKER_01: them. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: So you saw them all night, basically. SPEAKER_01: They were hanging out and Yep. SPEAKER_01: Having having a little good time, and then they took off. SPEAKER_01: And when's the last time you saw them? SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: They said they're on John's Alley. SPEAKER_02: They're trying to get some of my friends to go over there with them, and then but they didn't end up going, and then they just went over there. SPEAKER_01: Alright. SPEAKER_01: Had they do you know had they been anywhere before they showed up to the corner club? SPEAKER_01: Partying or because I know there was a football game going on that weekend, and there was, like, Wazoo had a football game too. SPEAKER_01: So it sounds like the town was, you know, hopping. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: You know? SPEAKER_01: So do you know if they were partying somewhere beforehand? SPEAKER_01: Or SPEAKER_02: I yeah. SPEAKER_02: I don't I didn't hear of anything specifically about them. SPEAKER_02: I was working over it and then I came to work after that. SPEAKER_02: So I didn't Okay. SPEAKER_02: I wasn't really talking to any friends or anything. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_02: Gotcha. SPEAKER_00: What do you do? SPEAKER_02: I work for the okay. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Oh, hang on. SPEAKER_01: And then did did you know was it Xana? SPEAKER_01: Is that how SPEAKER_02: you say it again? SPEAKER_02: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: Xana? SPEAKER_02: Xana. SPEAKER_01: Did you know Xana and Ethan very well at all? SPEAKER_02: I knew I knew Xana just from just, like, going to parties and stuff and just talking to her there, but I never I didn't really know her, like, on a personal basis, really. SPEAKER_02: We hung out a couple times over the summer. SPEAKER_02: I went over there and barbecued and stuff. SPEAKER_02: Mhmm. SPEAKER_02: Because me stayed up over the summer, but other than that, nothing. SPEAKER_02: I never really met with that person. SPEAKER_02: And I knew Ethan just based off of, like, fraternity stuff, like, I tried to recruit him Oh, okay. SPEAKER_02: When we were I would that'd be my junior year, his freshman year. SPEAKER_02: Alright. SPEAKER_02: Which frat was he in? SPEAKER_02: Sigma Chi. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Do you know you heard anything? SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you would have mentioned it, but I gotta ask, you know, have you heard anything of anybody wanting to target them or would have been mad at them or, like, a a jealous person that might have wanted to SPEAKER_00: harm them? SPEAKER_00: Any one of SPEAKER_02: them. SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I mean, anything helps at this point. SPEAKER_02: We've been trying to, like, figure that out since we heard the news. SPEAKER_02: Like, we really have no idea. SPEAKER_02: They're all really nice people. SPEAKER_02: So Okay. SPEAKER_02: Just nothing comes to mind. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_01: And you never met you never heard them mention, like, somebody, you know, poking around their place or, you know, somebody watching their house or anything suspicious like that? SPEAKER_01: Mm-mm. SPEAKER_01: Nothing like that? SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Um, what is what is what's his personality like? SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you where I'm going is do you think that he could've, you know, gotten jealous because he was at the corner club that night and maybe saw her and, you know SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you does he strike you as somebody that might, you know, wanna harm her? SPEAKER_02: No. SPEAKER_02: He no. SPEAKER_02: He I mean, he loved her. SPEAKER_02: He thought he was gonna marry her. SPEAKER_02: Like, he they had a great relationship even when they were not together. SPEAKER_02: Like, he he's the one of, like, the calmest, like, kindest people. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_02: That's just what I know of him. SPEAKER_02: I mean, I've known him for the last four years. SPEAKER_02: I've lived with him this last semester. SPEAKER_02: So Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: Does he have is he, like, an outdoorsy guy at all? SPEAKER_01: Or SPEAKER_02: He's in the sports. SPEAKER_02: He's a sports guy, not super outdoorsy. SPEAKER_02: But Does SPEAKER_01: he have any hunting equipment or camping gear up there? SPEAKER_02: I don't think so. SPEAKER_01: A knife? SPEAKER_01: You ever seen him with a knife? SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: Big knife? SPEAKER_01: No? SPEAKER_02: No. SPEAKER_02: Nothing like that? SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Is there anybody else that you think that we should talk to besides the sorority ministers? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: I don't know. SPEAKER_02: I gave the names and numbers of all my roommates to agent Riggs. SPEAKER_02: K. SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's I think I've talked to everyone. SPEAKER_02: No one really has any other information than kind of what I've said, so no no name comes to mind right now. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Well, is it okay if we have any other follow-up call you? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Okay? SPEAKER_00: For sure. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Because I don't know if, from this point on, if there's a need for us to come back. SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, anything else can be over the phone Yeah. SPEAKER_00: If that's okay. SPEAKER_01: Um, are you planning on staying home then for just Thanksgiving break? SPEAKER_01: You're going back up? SPEAKER_02: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: I'll probably end up going back up just to finish up the semester after Thanksgiving break, but Right. SPEAKER_02: I'll be here until then. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_02: Perfect. SPEAKER_01: Ever made any comments to you or you ever heard him, like, say anything, like, you know, SPEAKER_00: suspicion, like Just anything, you know, like, hurt her or how dare she, SPEAKER_01: you know, or anything like that. SPEAKER_02: No. SPEAKER_02: I've honestly never heard him say anything bad about her, you know. SPEAKER_02: So, yeah. SPEAKER_02: I know he obviously has to be a suspect, boyfriend type show. SPEAKER_02: Sure. SPEAKER_02: But, like, honestly, there's, like, nothing that Yeah. SPEAKER_02: I could ever see. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: K. SPEAKER_01: Alright. SPEAKER_01: That's pretty much what we had. SPEAKER_01: You know? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Pretty pretty simple. SPEAKER_01: We're just out, you know, shaking the bushes, basically seeing if there's anything that anybody heard or, you know, about the girls. SPEAKER_01: It's like especially, you know, somebody that might have been trying to stalk her or, you know, showed showed a lot of interest in her or maybe she had you know, her or or some of the other girls might have, you know, scorned someone and and they got pissed off. SPEAKER_01: You know? SPEAKER_01: So that's, I mean, that's kind of the direction that we're that we're looking at right now. SPEAKER_01: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: But, again, you know, we we don't know at this point. SPEAKER_01: You know? SPEAKER_01: We don't know if it was just a random act or if, you know, somebody targeted them. SPEAKER_01: So Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Anything at all that you think, you know, even if you don't think it it could be helpful, you know, just feel free to shoot me a text or call me, you know, like, hey.
