SPEAKER_00: Alright. SPEAKER_00: It's Friday, December 9 at 11:37AM. SPEAKER_00: Here with detective this is detective Will Adams with detective Cody Herman. SPEAKER_00: And your name? SPEAKER_01: Correct. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Alright. SPEAKER_00: So, again, such we have to come talk to you. SPEAKER_00: You know, bad stuff happened or whatever. SPEAKER_00: The only the re the the reason we're coming to talk to you is because, SPEAKER_01: um, uh, SPEAKER_00: one of the victims, Kaylee. SPEAKER_00: Mhmm. SPEAKER_00: Correct. SPEAKER_00: Right? SPEAKER_00: Um, and so we're chasing down every lead, closing every hole we can, um, just so that when we catch this guy, you know, they can't come back and say, oh, you didn't check the you know, and then the defense makes some weird argument and that kind SPEAKER_02: of stuff. SPEAKER_01: Gotcha. SPEAKER_00: So that's the main reason we're here. SPEAKER_00: So tell me a little about you. SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Kaylee, I only met maybe once at the apartment. SPEAKER_01: And then one time, she was at her house, she'd she'd come over. SPEAKER_01: So, again, just kinda crossing paths. SPEAKER_01: And we'd be on our way out or, like, you know, one time I came home for lunch at the at the apartment, met to grab a bite to eat, and one of the was there one time during the day. SPEAKER_01: I don't remember if Kaylee was during the lunch break. SPEAKER_01: But so just short short interactions. SPEAKER_02: They're coming and going past the SPEAKER_01: Coming and going. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yep. SPEAKER_01: But no the only one that spent significant time with is that's been in this facility or outside of it. SPEAKER_00: It kinda sound like her her and are pretty close. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: But is And, obviously, when all this went down, she really leaned into to just to be an outlet for her. SPEAKER_00: And Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Yep. SPEAKER_00: And that's that's kinda what it sound like. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: So just coming and going, that kind of stuff. SPEAKER_00: I lost my train of thought. SPEAKER_00: I I forgot to ask in the beginning. SPEAKER_00: What's your SPEAKER_01: k. SPEAKER_02: But that's not something that, like, a bunch SPEAKER_01: of students, like, attend. SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: Not student bodies at all. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Even if lost SPEAKER_00: And and you don't think Kaylee ever, like those times? SPEAKER_01: I don't think so. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: By the time that news came out, I mean, we were we were in here and one of the gals that works in facilities kinda came around and said there was a homicide. SPEAKER_01: The shared the lockdown news and things like that, and and we were hunkered in for the rest of the night game anyways. SPEAKER_01: So we just kinda, wow. SPEAKER_01: You know? SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: So yeah. SPEAKER_00: So that next day, you got her in here all day? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So my my they usually took off, like, by noon, and then we're in here by eleven, 12:00. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_02: As far as, like, that so after that game, did you it doesn't sound like you knew any of the other victims, did you know any of the other? SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_02: No. SPEAKER_02: So only Kaylee, but only slightly in passing just because of the big but SPEAKER_00: not. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: And Ethan Ethan was a big big kid. SPEAKER_00: The one of the big he never came around. SPEAKER_00: He didn't no. SPEAKER_00: He never came around. SPEAKER_01: If I ever was around or met him, I don't recall. SPEAKER_01: It would have been in in passing. SPEAKER_00: Kinda was SPEAKER_01: a student around here. SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you've seen a lot his photo around a lot now. SPEAKER_01: But Yeah. SPEAKER_00: But prior to that, you wouldn't be able to pick him out of a crowd? SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: Not at all. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Because also part of this, you know, we have to come talk to you about the big but we also we know the students are around, and they they go places and stuff. SPEAKER_00: And then, um, so we try to see if maybe there was a part of the timeline we missed, maybe call them somewhere. SPEAKER_00: So we ask everybody Sure. SPEAKER_00: That kind of stuff. SPEAKER_01: Yep. SPEAKER_00: Uh, which leads me to my next question. SPEAKER_00: So we do know that a couple of the gals were at the corner club on that night, and I and and then I had heard that you guys go out there with the other Did you did anybody go out to the corner club that night? SPEAKER_00: Did you guys go out there? SPEAKER_01: We did not. SPEAKER_01: We did go to the Best Western, though. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: And SPEAKER_00: And, of course, you wouldn't see anybody there because No. SPEAKER_01: They don't have students or SPEAKER_02: anything like that. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: And then I'm I assume after the Best Western, you get at home. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: We definitely didn't go to the corner club. SPEAKER_00: I I was talking to Tyson Barrett. SPEAKER_01: Yep. SPEAKER_00: You know him? SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah. SPEAKER_00: He said they're usually after the the meetings, there's, like, one or two spots that they could SPEAKER_01: So, like, we'd even SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of a place you can go. SPEAKER_02: And not have to worry about running into 800 students. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: So you got home that night, and then when you heard about the the incident, you were already here SPEAKER_01: Correct. SPEAKER_00: Working? SPEAKER_01: Yep. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Alright. SPEAKER_00: And, obviously, it's on lockdown, so you wouldn't have seen anybody. SPEAKER_02: Was there anybody else when you when that news did come out that you remember you're around, whether it be or other staff or whatever that was like, oh, man. SPEAKER_02: I saw them last night. SPEAKER_02: Or, well, I guess the names hadn't been released yet. SPEAKER_01: But Names hadn't been released yet. SPEAKER_02: Anything weird that people are like, oh, man. SPEAKER_02: Like, I saw this. SPEAKER_02: It was weird last night, or anything that stood out to you that I mean, obviously, everybody's like, what the what happened? SPEAKER_02: Right? SPEAKER_02: Like, what's going on? SPEAKER_02: But nothing anything that stood out to you is like SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: We We're upstairs room. SPEAKER_01: Again, I I don't know the gal's name, but I know she works in facilities. SPEAKER_01: Just came around doing her due diligence, and we kinda got right back to work. SPEAKER_01: Bunch of us texted our gal, making sure, you know, they were good and safe, and it wasn't one of them. SPEAKER_01: But, no, at that point, we had no idea who it was or Okay. SPEAKER_01: Nothing out of like I said, that No. SPEAKER_01: At that point, we don't we don't see our on Sunday mornings. SPEAKER_01: So it wasn't like, you SPEAKER_02: know Okay. SPEAKER_01: Rumors last night are still telling the the drunk tank stories or whatever it may be. SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, we we went home. SPEAKER_01: Sunday mornings is family time with the kid and back in here to recap the prep in the next week. SPEAKER_01: We're usually here from eleven to noon till 10:00 on Sunday nights. SPEAKER_02: Okay. SPEAKER_01: I feel like that was early evening, late afternoon when she had come around and and said that. SPEAKER_01: I was on lockdown. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: I think the news broke. SPEAKER_00: It's probably one. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_02: One, 02:00 in the afternoon. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Cool. SPEAKER_01: So Okay. SPEAKER_00: What was I gonna say? SPEAKER_00: Sorry. SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think of questions that I can ask you that It's Friday. SPEAKER_02: It's been a long, SPEAKER_01: long, long, SPEAKER_00: four weeks. SPEAKER_00: And we just talked to so a lot of the stuff that, uh, I wanna ask. SPEAKER_00: You know, my brain keeps saying, well, you already answered that question. SPEAKER_00: And then anyway Okay. SPEAKER_00: Quick question. SPEAKER_00: With your play have your play with any information? SPEAKER_00: Like, what's your communication like with your play? SPEAKER_01: So we even before this happened, we had what we call meetings and where we break the team up into a variety of groups. SPEAKER_01: Normal day to day, just for context. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I work and meet with the same same nine work with them and around the next smallest and then the full team. SPEAKER_01: So he has crossover, so we'll break apart, and I'll actually meet him here. SPEAKER_01: And it could be two o just a variety of to get to know the team better, essentially, and talk things, life, whatever. SPEAKER_01: Sure. SPEAKER_01: And so, obviously, after this happened, that was the the main topic. SPEAKER_01: The next next two weeks is just going, hey. SPEAKER_01: How are guys doing with things? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Like, one of the with the the the male Ethan. SPEAKER_01: Ethan, thank you. SPEAKER_00: What's his name? SPEAKER_00: Just in case we haven't talked to him SPEAKER_01: Chris, you gotta think I'm a bad person. SPEAKER_01: He's a he's a SPEAKER_00: So after the event or after the incident, those meetings kicked up a little more? SPEAKER_00: Or SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, just we still did them once a week, but we usually did them at the end. SPEAKER_01: He moved it up to the beginning of a of a prep session to one day Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Just, again, to make it a a priority and emphasis for Okay. SPEAKER_01: Have a an outlet. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: And, like, so so let's say if if one of your is having a bad time or they go out and they get trashed and they need help with something, are they allowed to call you guys, like, at night SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah. SPEAKER_00: To come and get you? SPEAKER_00: Or no. SPEAKER_00: Or to come to come like, to come help them somehow? SPEAKER_01: So more of it's not not in a pinch. SPEAKER_01: It's Right. SPEAKER_01: You know, you fuck up. SPEAKER_01: You're you're you're dealing with consequences, and it's probably gonna be worse from our end. SPEAKER_00: Right. SPEAKER_00: But, I mean, like, if a kid is like, he's hammered. SPEAKER_00: He got separated from his friends. SPEAKER_00: They all left him, and he's in a pinch and needs a ride home. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: If if a kid's SPEAKER_00: I know that's know that's less likely now with, like, Uber and all that stuff. SPEAKER_00: But SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: As a you know, we're responsible for our and their decisions. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So with that becomes, you know, a kind of a step parent, if you will, type role. SPEAKER_01: But, like, my all of that, like, listen. SPEAKER_01: I'm not a I'm not a DD for you. SPEAKER_00: Right. SPEAKER_01: You know, type deal. SPEAKER_01: If if if the kid was discombobulated and scared or whatever, and then I'll come get you, and we're gonna deal with this. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: But if he's like, hey. SPEAKER_01: I don't have money for a tax, and I'm drunk. SPEAKER_01: Like, we'll call the rest of your phone log first because this Yeah. SPEAKER_01: That's not my role. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: But the feel like is we should know if you got in trouble. SPEAKER_01: You know? SPEAKER_01: Right. SPEAKER_01: Police shouldn't come the next day and say, hey. SPEAKER_01: We arrested so and so. SPEAKER_01: We better be one of your contacts so we're not blindsided with with stuff that happens outside the facility. SPEAKER_00: Right on. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: So I imagine your phone is on 247. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_01: We inherited a pretty good group here. SPEAKER_01: So I I haven't had any other than parking tickets and missed classes type stuff. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: No kidding. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Since the incident, have any of your play other than Joe that knows Ethan, have they said they heard anything? SPEAKER_00: Have they given you any rumors? SPEAKER_00: Anything going around? SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think it's probably all the other the same rumors. SPEAKER_01: Like, the initial day, it was SPEAKER_00: Right. SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think the first rumor I heard was it was a a drug deal gone bad, you know, or, like, somebody sampled. SPEAKER_01: It was laced. SPEAKER_01: Someone committed suicide. SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, domestic type rumor, and then, you know, more stuff came out that all four victims were stabbed and this and that. SPEAKER_01: So then that stuff didn't start making sense. SPEAKER_01: So I totally think we just stay out of it. SPEAKER_01: Your brain's gonna try and make sense of it. SPEAKER_00: There's Yeah. SPEAKER_01: It's not going to make sense, so let's not have any role in perpetuating. SPEAKER_00: Right. SPEAKER_00: No rumors. SPEAKER_02: What about any of the other They expressed anything like, oh, some of our guys, you know, came in or they were talking about this or they were really good friends or best friends. SPEAKER_02: The reason I asked that is because we're here. SPEAKER_02: We got in contact with you through Kaylee as you guys are basically a employ. SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean? SPEAKER_02: But as far as the other co and and whatnot, as far as I know, I don't think we've contacted any of the other ones or talked with them. SPEAKER_00: No. SPEAKER_00: We just we are gonna follow-up with I think I don't think Kaylee ever SPEAKER_01: Yep. SPEAKER_00: I think but I think she was in touch with them. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So that so both families were kinda in a a same situation. SPEAKER_01: So there was no our list, our lineup was utilized by both families and even, like was close with officer Barrett. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: He's our His has been for all families. SPEAKER_01: Gotcha. SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't think she's kinda connected. SPEAKER_01: But, you know, from our from our view, that's SPEAKER_00: part our lineup. SPEAKER_00: Does she attend school here? SPEAKER_01: Is I don't even know. SPEAKER_01: I I think so. SPEAKER_01: She's around all the time. SPEAKER_01: I would assume so. SPEAKER_01: She's like she's in a program at Wazoo. SPEAKER_01: But SPEAKER_00: But she's of that she's that same age group. SPEAKER_01: Similar. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: I couldn't tell you. SPEAKER_00: Like I SPEAKER_01: said Yeah. SPEAKER_00: No. SPEAKER_00: You're SPEAKER_01: Did more of the vetting on on any of our employ as he put them Yeah. SPEAKER_01: From that standpoint. SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, that's that's really what it was. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I don't even know. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_02: So no other no other or anything that we're like, hey. SPEAKER_02: You know, actually, you might wanna talk to this guy. SPEAKER_02: He did have one of his was, like, having a really rough time because they're really close or, like, said they saw something. SPEAKER_02: Because one of the things that we've seen in talking to people a lot is, and I think this might even maybe somewhat apply to you too, is that, you know, we we end up calling somebody or, hey. SPEAKER_02: Can we meet up when you talk? SPEAKER_02: You know, like, how did you know them? SPEAKER_02: How do. SPEAKER_02: And a lot of people, they're they're like, yeah. SPEAKER_02: Well, I was with them that night or, you know, two in the morning. SPEAKER_02: I saw them here or stuff like that. SPEAKER_02: And it's basically like, well, you know, we didn't know if, like, we didn't know if it was information that you wanted. SPEAKER_02: You probably didn't need it. SPEAKER_02: It wasn't much. SPEAKER_02: It's probably nothing, so we didn't really reach out. SPEAKER_02: Or some people on the flip side of that were like, oh, yeah. SPEAKER_02: I'm not surprised you're calling. SPEAKER_02: I was it was expecting to receive a call from me sometime. SPEAKER_02: Gotcha. SPEAKER_02: Well, that that is much more difficult because there's so many different branches of this tree of four people's lives that we have to understand. SPEAKER_02: Yep. SPEAKER_02: So being more of the, well, I don't know. SPEAKER_02: It's probably nothing, but is there anybody that you've heard like that that you could be like, well, actually, this person was kinda contemplating it or mentioned it. SPEAKER_02: Like, maybe you should just go talk to them. SPEAKER_01: The the the number one person, which I know everybody's talked to, was was Right. SPEAKER_01: You know, as far as in within our circle, you know SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Branches that connect and touch one another, you know, the top one that, you know, we have a a relationship with. SPEAKER_01: As far as the team John, he's a He he was the only one that I remember that had, you know, relationship to Ethan. SPEAKER_01: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: I know, like, the same meeting, he had a class, not with Kaylee, with one of the other gals. SPEAKER_02: Don't know which one. SPEAKER_02: Maddie or Xana. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Like, they were in a study group together, things like that. SPEAKER_01: So it's a small campus. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I mean, if if you're for more branches to to chop off the tree SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Absolutely. SPEAKER_01: We could we I can ask the staff and just say, hey. SPEAKER_01: You know, reach out to your groups if you want more butts in these seats to to do that off the staff. SPEAKER_01: He said, I know had used that that same lineup of of gals. SPEAKER_01: Yep. SPEAKER_01: And then the only other one as you're, like, who has talked about it put staff. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: I mean, mine. SPEAKER_01: So nothing overly specific, you know, or like, hey. SPEAKER_01: If there was a direct connection, but it has this more of a SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Gotcha. SPEAKER_01: Broad scope. SPEAKER_01: And then like I said, the you we gotta Sure. SPEAKER_01: You know, we're gonna be able to connect, you know, through a study group like Yeah. SPEAKER_00: And study group with one understand the carries a lot of weight around here as far as, you know, at parties and stuff or if law enforcement is called the party that they're at. SPEAKER_00: Like, the are helping out law enforcement. SPEAKER_00: Like, if law enforcement asks them to help clear out a house, like, it's party. SPEAKER_00: You know? SPEAKER_00: Those SPEAKER_01: guys Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Those guys have have weight, and they and they carry that around. SPEAKER_00: And so so they those guys you know, that's why we ask if you heard anything because, you know, the down there, they're in the mix with these with the other kids and stuff. SPEAKER_00: And I know most of them are not in a fraternity. SPEAKER_00: Right? SPEAKER_01: Correct. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Not to my knowledge. SPEAKER_01: None of them are. SPEAKER_01: Mean SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Anything else right now? SPEAKER_00: No. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: So like I told you in the beginning, one of the main reasons so there's a couple different reasons, but one of the main reasons that we are talking to you and and kinda chasing down this lead is so that later in the court process, the defense can't use, you know, like, your relationship to Kaylee, which is apparently almost nothing. SPEAKER_00: Uh, know, they can't use that as a defense for the, um, for the defendant, whoever, you know, that is. SPEAKER_00: And, uh, so that he doesn't they can't put reasonable doubt in the jury's mind. SPEAKER_01: K. SPEAKER_00: K? SPEAKER_00: Um, so with people kinda like in your situation, uh, we are asking
