SPEAKER_01: I was watching college football, then I went to the gym for a little bit. SPEAKER_01: And then my my roommate, my he had which is right next door to the corner club. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: So I went there for a few hours. SPEAKER_01: I think we stopped there at, like, 09:00, and then we went over to Mingles for, like, an hour. SPEAKER_01: And then we went to the corner club. SPEAKER_01: But at this point, like, I was pretty intoxicated. SPEAKER_01: Like, I I don't really remember taking that picture with her, but I do remember getting home. SPEAKER_01: And they said I got home around, 01:00. SPEAKER_01: And that was kinda the end of the night. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: How and do you know SPEAKER_01: how how'd you get home? SPEAKER_01: I just walk because it's, like, SPEAKER_00: maybe quarter mile to to my house. SPEAKER_00: What's your what's your address? SPEAKER_00: Where you live up there? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So the corner club is right there and so I just walked. SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay. SPEAKER_00: You live way over there. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Had have you had you ever been to the the house where the people were murdered? SPEAKER_01: Mm-mm. SPEAKER_01: I've like, I've been in that area from school, from parties, and whatnot. SPEAKER_01: Right. SPEAKER_01: I've I didn't know where, like, Maddie lived or anything until SPEAKER_00: So when you when you hang out with Matt Maddie or work on your group projects, where do you guys do that at? SPEAKER_01: We do it at the school. SPEAKER_01: We so we the which is that we just do it in the basement there. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Who who else is in your little group? SPEAKER_01: He has a dad. SPEAKER_01: So I don't know his Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: And so it's just you three in your project group? SPEAKER_01: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: We're we're doing a project on on a cafe there in town. SPEAKER_00: What what do you guys do? SPEAKER_00: Like, make a Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Exactly. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: K. SPEAKER_00: You do you remember much about oh oh, who's SPEAKER_01: your roommate? SPEAKER_01: So I have three. SPEAKER_01: So there's no relationship. SPEAKER_01: And then and that So those are the three. SPEAKER_01: So are a couple, and then it's feed. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: So you you're saying you you got pretty drunk, which everybody does at the corner club. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: And then you say what time did your friends or your roommates say you got home? SPEAKER_01: So they got home around, like, 01:30, 01:40, and I'd gotten home, like, around, like, thirty minutes before he did. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: So you're rolling in around one? SPEAKER_00: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: Like, 12:45 to one. SPEAKER_01: And, like SPEAKER_00: yeah. SPEAKER_00: How'd you get to the the with the place? SPEAKER_01: I just walked. SPEAKER_01: Just walked? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Because he was already down there because the air mass started at, like, 10:00 in the morning, and then I just met him down there around, like, 04:00. SPEAKER_00: So sleeping off, what time did you get up Sunday then? SPEAKER_01: Sunday? SPEAKER_01: I think I got up around, like, SPEAKER_00: noon. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: And It's pretty late. SPEAKER_00: Well, good night at partying. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Um, so then when when did you learn about what was sorry. SPEAKER_00: What was going on in town? SPEAKER_01: Well, they sent they sent a, like, a mass, like, vandal alert. SPEAKER_00: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: I think I have. SPEAKER_01: So I tried to pull them up. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: So it's kinda, like, in real time. SPEAKER_01: The yeah. SPEAKER_01: They'd send like a mass vandal alert on Sunday morning or like Sunday afternoon. SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, the first one is is this one. SPEAKER_01: What is that? SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is not the first one. SPEAKER_01: This one. SPEAKER_01: So that's how I I learned. SPEAKER_01: What does that damn thing even say? SPEAKER_01: How? SPEAKER_01: It's just basically, it's explaining the situation and then what to do on their bed. SPEAKER_01: And I think at this time, King Road was like, if you lived in that area, you were like supposed to stay home. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: And then, like, an hour later, I get this one, and it just said, like, there's no suspect, roommate in Village Land. SPEAKER_01: And then another one I can't remember what time this is, but this is when I found out, like, how many people had done it. SPEAKER_01: At this point, I'm I was at work at in at Sunday on Sunday night, and there's, like I know people. SPEAKER_01: So they were already, like, speculating, like, how many people had done it or how many people were were victims. SPEAKER_01: And then finally, on Monday or Sunday night, Scott Green, the president, had sent out this one explaining that classes were canceled on Monday and just explaining, like, the whole event that went down. SPEAKER_01: And then on Monday, I went to work and basically, like, pretty much at that point, like, all my professors had canceled classes. SPEAKER_01: But I didn't know it was Maddie until I got this, like, this message from my professor, like, on Monday morning. SPEAKER_01: And that's when I was, like, oh, wow. SPEAKER_00: Oh, so you didn't learn who really who it was till that came out then? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I didn't know the the like, any of them. SPEAKER_01: I didn't know who the victims were until because she sent she sent the class one, that one, and then she sent me and a personalized one in my Canvas. SPEAKER_01: That was on Monday? SPEAKER_01: This is yeah. SPEAKER_01: Monday afternoon. SPEAKER_01: So, like and then this is my professor, she says to her. SPEAKER_01: And this and I literally, like because I'd seen that we'd taken a picture together. SPEAKER_01: I was, like, there's no way. SPEAKER_01: Like, she has to get, like, the name wrong. SPEAKER_01: And I looked up, like, the article from the statesman and they listed out SPEAKER_00: Who it was? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: So you're work where do you work? SPEAKER_01: I work at How SPEAKER_00: long have you worked there? SPEAKER_00: I've worked SPEAKER_01: at the company for eight years, but at that one, since I've went to school. SPEAKER_01: I guess aside from SPEAKER_00: So you've worked at other ones? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I've worked at this one down here and yeah. SPEAKER_01: Just haven't had to worry about trying to go get another job. SPEAKER_01: K. SPEAKER_01: When SPEAKER_00: you're at the corner club, did you see who Matty was with? SPEAKER_01: Well, not really. SPEAKER_01: The only, like, from that picture, I can just I think these are, like, her friends. SPEAKER_01: Let's gets in the picture, but I don't know who that is. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: She, sent it to try to get, like, get come out. SPEAKER_00: So do do you you and Maddie and go to the corner club or other places? SPEAKER_00: Was the SPEAKER_01: first time I never seen her out. SPEAKER_01: Oh, really? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, that I like I said, I've never, like, been, like it's not, like, a personal initiative. SPEAKER_01: It's just out of class and stuff. SPEAKER_01: So we've we usually, like, get together when we have a project due, like, a week before, and then, like, Zoom meeting, we'll talk, just discuss. SPEAKER_01: And then, like, the the day of the presentation, we'll all get together. SPEAKER_01: So that's so I've only, like, really talked to Maddie, like, four or five times throughout the school year. SPEAKER_00: She's has she ever talked to you about having any issues with anybody or anything like that? SPEAKER_01: We yeah. SPEAKER_01: It's just about, like because she works at Mad Greek. SPEAKER_01: That's the place that we're doing them on. SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_01: And that's, like, the extent of, like, the conversations as far as, like, her own personal life. SPEAKER_00: So nothing about some dude harassing her at work or nothing like that? SPEAKER_01: Not that I know of. SPEAKER_00: And you did you say you didn't know Kaylee? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Not personally. SPEAKER_01: Like, I obviously, like, looked at her, like, Instagram, like, after everything went down and and found out that they're it looks like they're pretty good friends. SPEAKER_00: The guy, Ethan, whatever the Ethan I didn't know Ethan. SPEAKER_01: Like, Santa at all. SPEAKER_00: Oh, never met him? SPEAKER_00: Never been to their house. SPEAKER_00: Let me ask you. SPEAKER_00: Does it's not a secret now it's out, but does Sporting Goods, do they sell K bar knives? SPEAKER_00: We don't know. SPEAKER_00: She she my boss SPEAKER_01: she said that we have, like, old ones because the police were, like, looking for cable knives, but we don't have any of the ones that they were looking for. SPEAKER_01: We have, like, really, really I don't know, like, how old, but they're, like, clearance now. SPEAKER_01: So that could be, like, be anywhere from, like, two to five years old. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Or maybe even older too. SPEAKER_00: I don't know. SPEAKER_00: Because new K Bars, they come with a Kydex, don't they, sheath? SPEAKER_00: Do you know? SPEAKER_00: I mean Oh, SPEAKER_01: I have no idea. SPEAKER_01: I've literally never bothered. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: And and you know anybody else who would have some information on on Maddie or any of them? SPEAKER_01: Not that I, like, not that I know of aside from just, like, her sorority, like, hobby. SPEAKER_01: But, obviously, they're probably talking to them already, you know. SPEAKER_01: But I don't know I don't know anybody that's, like, closer to me because, obviously, like I said, like, I never really talked to her outside of, like, the clash. SPEAKER_01: That was the first time that we, like, see each other out. SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay. SPEAKER_00: And about. SPEAKER_00: I know you you pretty much walk everywhere you go. SPEAKER_00: Do you have a you drive anywhere? SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: I don't have a car. SPEAKER_00: You didn't have a car up there? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: My car's broken down. SPEAKER_01: Oh, shit. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: But that's the thing. SPEAKER_01: It's like, don't really worry about it because everything's, like, within walking distance to me. SPEAKER_00: So do you do you remember, I mean, everything that happened at the at the corner club bar that night, or we drank way too SPEAKER_01: much. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Because the like, had, like, a special going on. SPEAKER_01: So I like, at the alright. SPEAKER_01: So I've been drinking from, like, I think, like, five or 06:00 without eating or so. SPEAKER_01: By the time, like, I just remember getting in the corner club, and I remember, like, mingling a little bit. SPEAKER_01: And then after that, it kinda gets hazy. SPEAKER_01: So Do you SPEAKER_00: remember getting thrown out of the corner club? SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: Is SPEAKER_00: that You did. SPEAKER_00: Oh, really? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Oh, I do not remember that. SPEAKER_00: So okay. SPEAKER_00: But I mean, hell, I've been thrown out of bars, so it's not the end of the board. SPEAKER_01: Well, no. SPEAKER_01: That makes sense why I got home early then because usually I find it out. SPEAKER_01: Okay. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Did they tell did they say, oh my god. SPEAKER_00: You were getting handsy with some female patrons. SPEAKER_00: Oh, really? SPEAKER_01: Mhmm. SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow. SPEAKER_01: Do not remember that at all. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, I forgot to to bring it today and I I need to meet up with you again if you're willing. SPEAKER_00: The I'll just tell you. SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna tell you about the crime scene or anything, but the killer did leave their DNA behind. SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could get your DNA from them because I know they take it or you can just voluntarily give it to us and it's not gonna go in at a database, but we are gonna run it against what we found at the crime scene. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Are you willing to do that? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: I'll you gonna be around a little bit more today? SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I gotta go get, like, a flu shot for the SPEAKER_00: but Okay. SPEAKER_00: Answer your phone. SPEAKER_00: It it'll be me or somebody else run out. SPEAKER_00: It takes thirty seconds to swab the inside of your mouth. SPEAKER_00: And then I can see I'm pretty sure can you pull up your sleeves for me so you see? SPEAKER_00: That's it. SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give you my card. SPEAKER_00: I mean, do do you socialize, like, on all the goddamn apps everybody uses now with people around school much? SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't really use, like, Instagram SPEAKER_00: or Instagram. SPEAKER_00: Do you talk to a bunch of them? SPEAKER_00: Has let me ask you this. SPEAKER_00: Has there been a lot of talk about what's happened up there? SPEAKER_01: Like, obviously, like, within the community. SPEAKER_01: Yes. SPEAKER_01: Right. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_01: I guess it's kinda scary. SPEAKER_00: Any any wild theories or any theories at all coming out? SPEAKER_01: Or Well, the first and this is, like, from a very unreliable source. SPEAKER_01: But, like, the first story I heard, which was that, like, Xana had, like, done cocaine and and, like, Ethan, the boyfriend, has, like, gone crazy. SPEAKER_01: But I don't think that's, like, the case if they can't find the murder weapon. SPEAKER_00: What oh, but what about since you only know Maddie, she into just drinking or she into other stuff? SPEAKER_01: I have no idea. SPEAKER_00: Okay. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, once we if you do hear anything, I mean, that sounds I mean, I I've heard stories of stalkers. SPEAKER_00: I've heard I mean, you can't imagine all the stuff we've heard. SPEAKER_00: But if you do hear something legit, would you please let me know? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna write SPEAKER_01: it down. SPEAKER_01: Of course. SPEAKER_01: And then That's the only story that I've heard so far. SPEAKER_01: But other than that, like, I was talking to my friends, like, last night that's from here, and they don't go to voice support or they don't go to U of I or anything. SPEAKER_01: But, like, there's, like, a article in, like, New York Times, like, you there might be multiple people or whatnot, but but You SPEAKER_00: know, I'll make a call. SPEAKER_00: We could get that we could get that damn swab done quick. SPEAKER_00: It will be. SPEAKER_00: Here, I'll call Miller. SPEAKER_00: Call Miller, see if he can just run out here real quick. SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: I it's amazing to me how these news medias have footage of they've got footage of the corner club bar. SPEAKER_00: They got footage of that grub hub truck, whatever it is. SPEAKER_00: That one. SPEAKER_00: You're you're the third member of your group. SPEAKER_00: Where's he live? SPEAKER_01: I I would assume Moscow, but I don't know. SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know. SPEAKER_01: Aside from just, you know, working with like, they're both, like, nice people. SPEAKER_01: The SPEAKER_00: so but you're not part of SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: No. SPEAKER_01: Just you alive? SPEAKER_00: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: It's the damnedest thing I've I've seen in that town, man. SPEAKER_01: Yeah. SPEAKER_00: You'd expect something like that in, you know Here. SPEAKER_00: Here. SPEAKER_00: You Yeah. SPEAKER_00: Know, places like that but SPEAKER_01: Well, I think that's why it's a scam in the community is that we don't get these kind of things like that often. SPEAKER_01: Like, I've heard stories like because my Hey. SPEAKER_01: Well, you run over a DNA swab over here. SPEAKER_01: I've heard stories like my DNA swab over here? SPEAKER_01: Like, she had, you know, li
